Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) at Bayhealth

A Safe, Accepting Environment for All People

Everyone deserves a place to work and receive healthcare where their thoughts, opinions and values are embraced. That’s what you can expect here as a member of the Bayhealth team.

We promote and champion diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) for all people who work and receive care in our facilities. We’re driven by the diversity of our staff members, physicians, volunteers, patients and audiences at all levels. Embracing our differences empowers us to provide the best experience possible to everyone.

When you join our team, you can expect an environment in which we build trusting and honest relationships through mutual respect and acceptance of others — regardless of:

  • Age
  • Sex
  • Race
  • National origin
  • Gender identity of expression
  • Educational background
  • Sexual orientation
  • Religion
  • Lifestyle
  • Physical ability

The diverse talents, strengths, life experiences and individual differences of our employees represent not only our organization’s culture but also the Delaware communities we’re proud to serve.

Our Commitment to DEI

As we continue to further our efforts to incorporate DEI principles throughout our system, we’ll work to discover and address any challenges to these principles. To accomplish these goals, we are:

  • Expanding our employees’ educational opportunities to include training on diversity and inclusion in the workplace, implicit and unconscious biases, cultural competence, accessibility and other topics
  • Creating a Diversity and Inclusion Council with champions from across Bayhealth to ensure all employees have a voice
  • Reviewing and revising our existing policies, programs and services as needed to remove biases and empower under-represented groups
  • Enhancing our recruitment practices to promote fair and consistent treatment of all applicants
  • Partnering with various organizations to increase recruitment efforts in diverse populations
  • Surveying our employees for their perspectives on diversity and inclusion in the workplace
  • Working with our leaders to measure departmental progress against annual performance goals in the areas of diversity and inclusion
  • Highlighting areas of our organization that deserve recognition for their inclusive practices
