Michal Bartel, MD, PhD, is a gastroenterologist, also called a GI doctor, who specializes in the health of the digestive system.
He was initially drawn to the field of gastroenterology because it combined his interest in procedures with the innovation and research aspect of medicine that he loves. Through advanced training and experience at prestigious health systems such as the Mayo Clinic and Fox Chase Cancer Center, Dr. Bartel has honed his skills in performing a wide range of endoscopic procedures to identify and address problems in the gastrointestinal system. This includes treatment of internal bleeding, removal of precancerous and early cancerous lesions, placement of endoscopic stents, endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) for detailed examination of the digestive tract, and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) to treat pancreatic and bile duct diseases, among other advanced endoscopic therapies.
Dr. Bartel applies leading medical expertise and cutting-edge technology with a focus on personalized patient care. He considers strong communication with patients, and with referring physicians, a cornerstone of his practice. He thoroughly educates patients on their condition and options, and in cases of a cancer diagnosis closely collaborates with his colleagues in surgical, medical and radiation oncology, to facilitate the best treatment decisions for each patient.
During his residency, Dr. Bartel was the recipient of the Excellence in Teaching award from Dartmouth–Hitchcock Medical Center. In 2016 he earned the Karis Award for exceptional performance at the Mayo Clinic.
In his spare time, Dr. Bartel enjoys traveling, swimming and hiking.
