Our Bariatrics Program Offers a Range of Surgical Weight Loss Solutions

The Bayhealth Bariatric Program is dedicated to helping patients achieve their weight loss goals and improve their overall health. Weight loss surgery and the types of surgery are individual decisions that deserve careful consideration. As every patient considering bariatric surgery is unique, the Bayhealth Bariatric Program offers a full range of bariatric surgical options.

This ensures that patients receive the bariatric surgery that will provide them with the best possible results.

Patients enrolled in the Bayhealth Bariatric Program can expect to receive individualized attention for their specific needs. Take the first step on your weight loss journey today by scheduling an appointment to meet with one of our board-certified and fellowship trained weight loss surgeons.

Our Weight Loss Specialists Provide Comprehensive Evaluation

Bayhealth Bariatric Program specialists carefully evaluate each case to tailor a weight loss approach that best meets the needs of each patient. Our surgeons may recommend:

Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass

With a Roux-en-Y gastric bypass procedure, only a small part of the stomach is used to create a new stomach pouch, roughly the size of an egg. The smaller stomach is connected directly to the middle portion of the small intestine (jejunum), bypassing the rest of the stomach and the upper portion of the small intestine (duodenum). This reduces the amount of food you can eat at one time. Bypassing part of the intestine reduces how much food and nutrients are absorbed and this leads to weight loss.

Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy

In the laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, the stomach is divided along its vertical length in order to create a slender pouch, about the size and shape of a banana. The excess stomach is removed. The purpose is to limit the amount of food ingested at any given time (restrictive operation), without altering the normal absorption of the vitamins and minerals.

Revisional Weight Loss Surgery

Patients who have already undergone weight loss surgery but either had complications or did not meet their weight loss goals may benefit from revisional weight loss surgery. Most bariatric surgical procedures (such as Lap-BAND/gastric banding) can be revised, and doctors sometimes can help improve results through other approaches, as well. If the results of a prior weight loss surgery were unsatisfactory, Bayhealth Bariatric Program surgeons may be able to help with a careful assessment of your individual case.
