President & Chief Executive Officer
Terry Murphy, MHSA, FACHE, is president and chief executive officer at Bayhealth and president and chief executive officer of Bayhealth Medical Center, Inc. A key leader at the organization since 2001, Murphy is responsible for directing the day-to-day operations of Bayhealth Kent and Sussex Hospitals.
Before being appointed to his current posts, he served as Bayhealth Medical Center executive vice president and chief operating officer and, prior, vice president of Bayhealth’s southern region.
Murphy serves as chairman of the Bayhealth Medical Center Board, vice chairman of the board of trustees for the University of Delaware, and a member of the Delaware Business Roundtable. He also serves on the board of directors for Leadership Delaware. A fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association, he is both a member and the Delaware delegate of the American Hospital Association, Regional Policy Board-Region 3.
A graduate of Belmont Abbey College with a BS in biological sciences, Murphy holds a master’s degree in health services administration from The George Washington University.
He is an avid supporter of the Bayhealth-sponsored 302 Food Rescue (an app-based program that reduces food waste and helps feed more Delawareans). When not in his shoes as a healthcare leader and walking the halls to talk with staff, patients, and visitors, he may be found in sneakers, shooting hoops with friends on the basketball court and spending time with his daughters. He also enjoys boating and fishing under the Chesapeake Bay Bridge for rockfish when time permits.
