Adkins’s Display of Compassion Earns a DAISY Award
Bayhealth patient care nurse Brandi Adkins, RN, goes the extra mile for her patients and works with her team to ensure all of medical and personal needs are met. Her commitment to providing compassionate care makes her an extraordinary nurse—and earned her a DAISY Award.
Recently, a patient Adkins had worked with previously was admitted. As soon as she saw the patient’s name, she made sure he was assigned to her.
Throughout the course of the patient’s stay, Adkins made sure to keep his wife updated every step of the way. Unfortunately, his health started to decline, so Adkins collaborated with her team to promptly get his medications and tests ordered, and she made sure every safety measure was in place.
Adkins’s compassion for the patient and his wife was apparent to all the nurses on her team. Not only did she ensure his medical needs were met, but she also ensured personal needs were met, too—the patient was always bathed and had clean sheets.
As the patient recovered, Adkins encouraged him to continue his care outside of the hospital.
The DAISY Award is given by the DAISY Foundation, which was formed in 2000 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes. The Barnes family wanted to recognize the nurses who cared for Patrick and all the other “unsung heroes” of the nursing profession.
DAISY Award honorees are chosen by nurses, administrators, peers, physicians, volunteers, patients, and family. If you know a Bayhealth nurse who deserves to be nominated, visit Bayhealth.org/DAISY and fill out the nomination form.
