Brian Duvak Charts New Path Forward for Respiratory and Sleep Services

Bayhealth has welcomed Brian Duvak, MBA, BS, RRT, as the director of respiratory therapy and sleep services. Duvak has a unique combination of clinical and leadership experience –as both a former respiratory therapist and director—that he brings to this new role at Bayhealth,
Born and raised in the Philadelphia area, Duvak spent the bulk of his career at Main Line Health in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania, most recently serving as their director of respiratory care. Having spent the first half of his career as a staff respiratory therapist, Duvak knows firsthand the demands of this work and how vital it is to patient care.

What has impressed Duvak most about Bayhealth are the people–how committed everyone is to their work and the future success of their team, and the friendliness of the community. Through his inclusive and people-oriented leadership style, Duvak is already making strides in improving teamwork and operations among his service line.

“I’ve been excited to tap into the homegrown clinical talent that we have here and put structures in place to best support our team,” said Duvak. “Enhancing the standardization between staff at Kent and Sussex Campuses and all four Bayhealth Sleep Centers is another goal. This will strengthen us as a department and better position us for future growth opportunities.”

Another important aim for Duvak and his team is reducing readmissions for respiratory patients, particularly those with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

“We’re developing an action plan to streamline COPD pathways for the inpatient and outpatient populations. Through ongoing assessment, education, and connecting patients and community members with the resources they need, we can help them better manage their condition at home and improve their quality of life,” he said.
