About

Lawrence Ward, MD, is an internal medicine physician who serves as the vice president of physician services and clinical integration for the Bayhealth Medical Group. He provides acute care—for sick visits and treatment of patients’ short-term medical needs—but is not accepting patients for long-term primary care.

In addition to a medical degree from Jefferson Medical College, Dr. Ward has a master of public health degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Following his internal medicine residency and fellowship with University of Pennsylvania Health System, he spent more than two decades as an attending physician and faculty member at a variety of Philadelphia-based institutions.

Most recently he served as the clinical population health leader for Jefferson Health and as the executive vice chairman for their Department of Medicine in center city Philadelphia. While working clinically in internal medicine, he has earned numerous Philadelphia Magazine Top Doctor honors and teaching awards.

Dr. Ward is passionate about improving population health and quality of care for patients. Drawing on his vast expertise as a physician leader, he works to strengthen patients’ healthcare outcomes and experiences through expanded preventative care, behavioral health, pharmacy services, and care coordination in the medical practice settings.

Dr. Ward believes in treating the whole person, so he takes a holistic approach with each patient visit. He truly listens to hear a patient’s point of view. Believing that his time is no more or less valuable than that of his patients, he works hard to stay on time while in the office. Dr. Ward greatly enjoys learning about his patients and the fulfillment that comes when they better understand their condition, are able to get the care they need and, hopefully, feel better both emotionally and physically.

Outside of work, Dr. Ward and his wife, who is also an internal medicine physician, enjoy time with their two daughters and travelling. Dr. Ward also likes to cook and stays active through hiking.
