Michelle DeMarco PA-C, is a physician assistant who cares for patients with heart problems undergoing cardiothoracic surgery.
Having a beloved family member with a serious medical condition was what influenced Michelle to go into the medical field. Before becoming a physician assistant, she had the chance to observe and work with advanced practice clinicians in the cardiothoracic surgery setting. She was so impressed by the highly trained team that she decided early on this was the specialty for her.
After she graduated from Stony Brook’s physician assistant program, Michelle gained experience at numerous health systems caring for cardiac and thoracic surgery patients. She was most recently at Northwell Health in New York before joining Bayhealth.
When it comes to patient care, her motto is to always care for her patients the same way she would want her family member treated if they were in the hospital bed. What fulfills her most in her work is watching a patient who came in scared and in pain walk out of the office smiling with a new take on life. “Knowing we had a hand on their heart (literally) and were able to change their life for the better is extremely rewarding,” said Michelle.
In her spare time, Michelle can usually be found at the beach with her family, curled up with a good book, or off scuba diving.
