The Inpatient Rehabilitation “Rehab” unit is a hospital based rehabilitation program within Bayhealth Hospital, Sussex Campus. All patients receive a minimum of three hours of therapy per day five days a week. Therapy is also available on the weekends.
Patients on the rehab unit are seen daily by both our dedicated PM&R physician and an internal medicine provider. Trained rehab RNs care for your patients round the clock.
Because the Inpatient Rehab is within a hospital setting, patients have convenient on site access to all of the hospital’s services, including:
- Medical specialists
- Tracheostomy care
- Laboratory
- Prosthetic training
- Hemodialysis
- Emergency services
- Peritoneal dialysis
- Wound care specialists
- Pharmacy, including IV, Infusions, Coumadin
- Management of patients with external cardiac defibrillators (LifeVests)
- Full Radiology Suite, including video swallow studies
Specialization & Accreditation
The Inpatient Rehab at Bayhealth is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and also received a three year accreditation by CARF for our Stroke Specialty Program. We are accredited by the Joint Commission to provide inpatient rehabilitation services. We are also Magnet recognized by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Please note patients do not require a three-night stay in an acute setting to be admitted to inpatient rehab.
