New Clinician Leadership Development Program Launched

New Clinician Leadership Development Program Launched

Monday, October 14, 2024 |

The inaugural class of Bayhealth’s Clinician Leadership Development Program (CLDP) met with presenters Jonathan Kaufmann, DO, chief health information officer and Michael Ashton, FACHE, vice president of operations/administrator, Sussex Campus, engaging the class on topics ranging from healthcare finance and knowing yourself as a leader to Bayhealth’s organizational structure.

The CLDP is a comprehensive nine-month leadership development program designed to refine the leadership knowledge, skills and abilities of physicians and advanced practice clinicians. Facilitated by Bayhealth leaders, participants will improve their self-knowledge, learn effective strategies in working with others, and a gain an understanding of the complexities of a health system.

The program involves a small, highly interactive cohort; half-day meetings during the work week; once per month sessions for nine months from Sept. 2024 through May 2025.

“When we opened the application process in the summer, we were encouraged and impressed by the enthusiasm surrounding this program,” said Vice President, Physician Services & Clinical Integration, Lawrence Ward, MD, MPH, FACP. “The program is designed to help close the knowledge gap between the participants’ medical training and the skills needed to be a leader in a practice or within a health system. The energy of the inaugural class is contagious, and we look forward to watching the participants’ leadership knowledge and skillset expand through the course of the program.”

“Dr. Ward and I were happy to collaborate to initiate the CLDP as it’s just one of the many professional development opportunities that we’re exploring and implementing across the health system,” said Director, Leadership & Organizational Development Keisha Morris “We’re developing programs that are appropriate for team members in different stages of their careers and looking at ways to better hone their leadership skills.”
