About
Inspired by her older siblings who both went into medicine, Dr. Shakeel was drawn to the noble profession of being a physician. She considers it the highest privilege to be entrusted with caring for someone’s health.
Endocrinology has always been close to Dr. Shakeel’s heart because her mother has diabetes and her sister has thyroid disease. She loves the diversity of this specialty field focused on the endocrine system—a complex network of hormone-producing glands which impact all parts of the body in a variety of ways.
For Dr. Shakeel, the most important aspects of her work are listening to her patients, empowering them with the best information and tools, and engaging in shared decision-making to benefit their health. She takes time to ensure each patient understands what’s happening in their body and how a treatment or medication will make a difference in their life.
Dr. Shakeel’s clinical interests include diabetes, thyroid and adrenal disorders, and preventative medicine—helping patients avoid obesity or diabetes if they are overweight or have pre-diabetes.
In her spare time, Dr. Shakeel loves being close to nature, including hiking and visiting national parks with her husband. She also enjoys cooking and baking.
