About
Dr. Mahmood found his calling as a physician. He was drawn to his specialty field because he enjoys outpatient treatments and procedures and finds great fulfillment in taking care of hospitalized patients at times when they need the most intense care.
During his training in internal medicine at MedStar Georgetown University/Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC, he served as chief resident of a large residency class. He went on to complete advanced fellowship training in pulmonology and critical care medicine and was chief fellow. He has expertise in treating a wide range of advanced lung disorders, such as pulmonary vascular disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and pulmonary fibrosis.
Through compassionate and collaborative care, Dr. Mahmood works with every patient to find the right treatment plans to improve their quality of life. Whether it’s providing attentive care to help a seriously ill patient come out of the Intensive Care Unit, or helping someone with COPD or asthma better manage their symptoms and feel well again, he is dedicated to meeting his patients’ needs.
Dr. Mahmood is also passionate about staying current on the latest developments in pulmonary and critical care medicine and being a leader in his field. He shares his knowledge through research and conference presentations and by teaching medical students and residents. He served on a steering committee for CHEST, a national network of pulmonology and critical care experts dedicated to advancing the wellbeing of patients and communities.
Outside of work, Dr. Mahmood loves traveling and completing DIY kits and models. He also describes himself as a “big foodie” who enjoys delicious food.
